Introduction to Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is a healing discipline firmly grounded in science.
The word “chiropractic” originates from the Greek, meaning
to “treat efficiently with the hands”.
Steadman’s Medical dictionary describes chiropractic as “the
science that utilizes the recuperative powers of the body, and the
relationship between the musculoskeletal structures, the spinal
column, and the nervous system in the restoration and maintenance
of health."
The focus of chiropractic care is on restoring and maintaining
the integrity of the spinal column, nervous and musculoskeletal
system.
The nervous system is the body’s super information highway
– delivering thousands of messages that coordinate and maintain
the function(s) and reaction(s) of every area of your body.
Chiropractors use various diagnostic methods, including
x-rays, to discover the state of your health, paying particular
attention to your spine and bone structure.
Spinal manipulation and other manual adjustments
are the chiropractor’s primary methods of helping your body
heal itself.
Although, the main focus of chiropractic is on the spinal, musculoskeletal
and nervous system, Chiropractors are also concerned with the overall
health and care of the entire body.
